In a surprising turn of events, 40-year-old former Toronto Maple Leaf, Mikhail Grabovski, has sparked conversations about a potential return to the NHL.

Despite the odds stacked against a comeback at his age, Grabovski demonstrated his enduring athleticism in a newly released video, hinting at his readiness to return to professional hockey.
The video, posted on "X" yesterday, features Grabovski undergoing a series of rigorous fitness tests administered by Matt Nichol, a renowned strength and conditioning coach and the Health Director for the Ottawa Senators. These tests are standard benchmarks used across the NHL to assess a player's fitness levels.
During the drills, Grabovski shared insights and light-hearted comments, especially about his former teammate Nikolay Kulemin.
"He took me through a bunch of tests. Here he was telling me how much better Kulie could have done with this one," Grabovski remarked, showcasing his competitive spirit and camaraderie.

Despite the physical challenges and the skepticism often associated with athletes of his age, Grabovski received some encouraging feedback from Nichol.
"I didn't think it was going to go that good. The scores of the testing were really, really good. Now, I would say they were average, but, average for any current NHL player. Not for an old retired guy."
-Nichol on Grabovski

This statement from a respected professional in NHL health circles underscores that Grabovski's current fitness level might still meet the league's demanding standards.
Over his NHL career, Grabovski played 534 regular season games, donning a Maple Leafs jersey in 340 of those contests. He achieved 91 goals and a total of 208 points during his tenure with the Leafs.
Known for his tenacity and relentless effort on the ice, Grabovski was a fan favorite, admired for his spirit and determination rather than just his skill. His journey with the Maple Leafs concluded abruptly when the team bought out the last four years of his five-year contract in 2012, after which he played for the New York Islanders and Washington Capitals before retiring.
The video concludes with a playful yet earnest call to action, with Grabovski directly addressing the current Leafs General Manager, Brad Treliving:
"Brad Treliving, call me anytime."

This unexpected tease of a comeback not only stirs up nostalgia among Maple Leafs fans but also poses the intriguing possibility of Grabovski's return to the ice. Whether this is merely a walk down memory lane or a serious attempt at a sports comeback remains to be seen, but it certainly has the hockey world watching.
