The idea of trading Mitch Marner, once deemed a challenging task by many, might not be so daunting after all. The Leafs are reportedly receiving calls on Marner.

Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Brad Treliving is reportedly already taking calls about the star winger, as shared by Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos. This news emerges in the wake of yet another disappointing playoff exit for Marner and the Leafs, sparking a significant outcry from the fanbase.
Marner's recent performances have left much to be desired, culminating in harsh criticism from fans and analysts alike. After avoiding a hit in a crucial moment, Marner was heavily criticized, a sentiment that escalated after his missed coverage led to David Pastrnak's decisive overtime goal in Game 7.
The frustration has been brewing, with the majority of Leafs fans now clamoring for a trade. As the Leafs contemplate major changes to their "Core 4," Marner, who is nearing the end of his contract, appears to be the most likely candidate to be moved.
Despite being in a similar contractual situation, it's hard to imagine the Leafs asking captain John Tavares to waive his no-movement clause. The preference seems to lean towards trading Marner, potentially as a means to gain some much-needed cap flexibility. However, Marner's no-movement clause and his significant cap hit pose notable challenges. Nonetheless, Kypreos notes an encouraging sign: several teams have already expressed serious interest in acquiring the three-time all-star, who consistently nears the 100-point mark each season.
"There are already multiple NHL teams that have reached out and shown a keen interest in a three-time all-star player who closes in on 100 points every season," Kypreos wrote in his Toronto Star column. "And that's with the knowledge that his next contract could land him as much as $100 million."

The willingness of Marner to waive his no-movement clause remains an uncertainty. Yet, the fact that multiple teams are already inquiring suggests that the Leafs might indeed find a way to orchestrate a beneficial trade.
The potential to recoup substantial assets in return for Marner is becoming more plausible, provided a deal can be struck. As discussions progress, Leafs Nation watches closely, hopeful yet apprehensive about the possible end of an era and the strategic moves that lie ahead.
