The Toronto Maple Leafs are making strategic moves this off-season, starting by bolstering their prospect depth with 4 new players joining the organization.

The Leafs have secured contracts with several promising players, setting a robust foundation for their AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies. The recent conclusion of the Stanley Cup has spurred the Leafs into action, ensuring their team structure is solidified early in the off-season.
Yesterday, the team confirmed a three-year contract extension with Joseph Woll, set to be formalized on July 1st. Hot on the heels of this deal, the Leafs announced today the signing of four players to one-year AHL contracts. These new additions—Matt Anderson, Jacob Frasca, Mathieu Gosselin, and Marko Sikic—are poised to join the Marlies for the upcoming season.
Matt Anderson, a 24-year-old defenseman, previously played with the Toledo Walleye in the ECHL. Despite a modest stature of 6 feet and 194 pounds, Anderson demonstrated his prowess by notching 34 points in 68 games last season. He also appeared in three games for the Marlies, contributing three assists.
Mathieu Gosselin, 25, brings his leadership skills from Clarkson University, where he served as captain in his final NCAA season. The skilled forward, standing at 5'10" and weighing 168 pounds, tallied an impressive 117 points over 160 NCAA games.
Marko Sikic, another notable addition, transitions to the Marlies after concluding his OHL career and a brief stint in the ECHL with the Newfoundland Growlers and Norfolk Admirals. At 6'3" and 183 pounds, Sikic's height and offensive skills are expected to enhance the Marlies' forward lineup. He wrapped up his OHL tenure with 147 points across 252 games.
Jacob Frasca, at 6'4" and 215 pounds, has been on the Leafs' radar since his participation in their development camp and the prospect tournament in 2023. The 21-year-old forward recently completed his OHL journey with the Sault Saint Marie Greyhounds, where he scored 21 points in 28 games.
While all these players are eligible to sign NHL contracts with other clubs, starting them on AHL deals allows the Leafs to closely monitor their development. This strategic move gives the Leafs an advantageous position to offer NHL contracts if these players meet or exceed expectations.
The signing spree not only enhances the Marlies' roster but also indicates potential shifts within the team. With nearly $20 million in cap space, Leafs GM Brad Treliving and the management team might consider promoting some Marlies to the Leafs as cost-effective depth options.
